Husband and wife team, Paul and Simone Rinke-Mailman are the creators behind Rinke Design - a commercial/domestic high end furniture design store making waves in Newmarket.
The huge range in the store (just 10% of what is available from their warehouse and catalogue) includes high-end imported European product but also, wonderfully, affordable New Zealand manufactured suites built to European designs and standards. "Furniture design in New Zealand has still been very basic until now," says Paul. "New Zealand manufacturers haven't pushed the limit to produce European design because it's not a simple process, there's a lot of development that goes into producing a suite to that quality. But now we're excited to be doing it."
And they can turn it around in a fast time frame. "Being able to make high end furniture here in New Zealand allows us to adapt pieces to certain lengths, with a range of upholstery options and, not only is it deliverable within a five week window, compared to up to 16 or 26 weeks when imported, they don't carry that high-end price point."
Rinke also holds the exclusive license for the LIMITLESS brand from the Netherlands. It is a wonderful blend of modern materials such as wood, glass, acrylics, steel and aluminium.
However, Paul and Simone's biggest seller has been The Perfect Chair to come out of the US. "It's great for people with bad backs and disabilities," says Simone, "but it is also the most comfortable home theatre chair you will ever come across." The Perfect Chair was designed by NASA using Aero Space technology to create a zero-gravity position cradles your back and elevates your legs above your heart.
Beautiful bronze sculptures and work from three New Zealand artist feature in the showroom, and keep an eye out for the new children's range - the baby Barcelona is the cutest thing you will ever see!
Paul is a cabinet maker by trade. "I've been in furniture since I left school so I can't remember a time I didn't have a fascination for furniture." Paul and Simone are a hugely enthusiastic couple and proud to offer a New Zealand component as the environmental impact of what they do is an issue close to their hearts.
