Ana Stefanac
"Originality gives us the confidence to
allow colour, material and form to communicate a sense of life in the work
we do.”
Ana has a Bachelor of Spatial Design degree, specializing in Interior
Architecture and has been trained through years as an interior architect
and fine artist. She established her own interior design practice, where
she advises clients on all aspects of interior design for residential and
commercial projects.
Her aspirations are the highest standards in all aspects of both artistic
and design work.
Ana works on large scale formats to be able to interpret and reflect ideas
and enjoys the freedom that allows her. Her paintings explore the concept
of layering, where each layer both conceals and reveals what is beneath,
superimposed or juxtaposed. Through a process of using different media,
she tries to evoke emotions. The forms in the paintings have adopted
organic curves, geometric forms, colours and light. Textures have also
contributed to all Ana’s interpretations and are repeated throughout.
Ana is always challenged to be creative and innovative and her passion
remains for a simple contemporary aesthetic. She strongly believes that
design elements and artwork should be able to speak for themselves. The
entire behavior of paintings is contemporary and abstract and she is
always trying to add a hint of refinement to achieve a composition that
contains a flavour of simple sophistication.

ARTIST COMMENT
The past four years have been spent
exploring ‘connections’ between people, in my ongoing series of work called
Random Spaces.
The first Random Spaces show was at
the Warwick Henderson Gallery, Auckland in 2003. A planned second exhibition
was never shown in its entirety – the works proving too popular to enable me
to pull together a full show.
Over time, my painting evolved into a
group of works entitled ‘Portals’. This explored not only the connection
between random groups or individuals but set up a stage involving various
layers of perception.
Within the overall Random Spaces
paintings a series evolved titled Beach walking, again exhibited at WHG.
These works concentrated on the fine balance between the environment and us,
best captured by the three Omaha inspired works called ‘You can’t ignore the
houses’.
